MOREHOUSE/SPELMAN CLASS OF ’98 REUNION WEEKEND FAQ

Why do we have a separate weekend of events planned aside from each college’s reunion schedule?

Each reunion year class committees are formed to enhance the overall reunion experience. The at-large events for both colleges are attended by all reunioning alumni; however, our class events are just for us and will provide the perfect environment for coming together as a class and reconnecting with each other. Our high rate of class attendance will also demonstrate to each college that the Class of ’98 is committed to giving back and making a difference.

I may not be able to attend all of our events. Which event do you suggest I attend?

The Friday night Gala at the Westin Hotel is our showcase event. It is the ONLY time you will be able to celebrate exclusively with your fellow 1998 classmates from Morehouse and Spelman. More importantly, both college presidents will be stopping by the Gala to welcome you and thank you for your commitment to your alma mater. The Gala is designed to be a laid back, entertaining, and fun evening. No long speeches, no sermons, but a party with a great purpose! The committee strongly believes this is a “must attend” event for every class member.

Where is everyone staying while in Atlanta for reunion weekend?

The Westin Peachtree Hotel is our official Class of ’98 hotel for reunion weekend. The Friday Night Gala will be held there, and we have negotiated a competitive nightly rate for all classmates. Even if you live in Atlanta, this is a wonderful opportunity to get away for at least a night and book a room at the Westin. We also have a hospitality suite that will be available to registered classmates with complimentary spirits and snacks. Reserve your room at the Westin on our official reunion site today! How were the pricing and packages determined for the weekend and where is our money going?

The class committee voted on and approved events that would be ideal for a great reunion experience. Prices were set according to cost per person. In order to accommodate varying schedules and levels of participation, package pricing and a la carte pricing were made available. 100% of your registration is used to cover the cost related to the ‘98 reunion events. During the weekend, we will have a financial report available for each classmate to review and keep for his or her records.

Can I just register for the weekend or buy a ticket to the events of my choice when I arrive in Atlanta?

There will be no on site selling of tickets at the door for the Friday Night Gala! You may purchase tickets for the Saturday night party at the door, but you will need to arrive early to avoid waiting in long lines.

What is the class gift and what is expected of me?

The class gift is a collective monetary donation. Each class member is expected to make a personal financial contribution to his or her respective college. For many classmates, this may be your first contribution in ten years! We want to make a strong statement with our giving to both colleges as graduates of the Class of ’98. No amount is too small. The website will direct you to the appropriate link for each college or you can

contact your college’s alumni office directly. A representative from the class of ‘98 will attend the Saturday night banquet for each respective college to officially present the class gift. When making your donation, be sure to indicate on your check or online payment that your donation is for your class gift!

I will not be able to attend the reunion weekend, but what can I do to help?

If you are not able to attend the reunion, you should still show your support by making a donation toward the class gift and encouraging other classmates to both attend the reunion and make a contribution.

I have registered online and received my confirmation but when do I get my tickets?

Upon your arrival to Atlanta on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday you will have an opportunity to pick up your registration packet at our 98 Hospitality Suite at the Westin Hotel and at the registration table prior to the Friday Night Gala. The Gala will require a ticket for entry, so make arrangements with a committee member if you will be arriving while the event is in progress.

What will be some of the highlights of the weekend?

Reconnecting with classmates

A slideshow presentation at the Friday Night Gala that is sure to bring back great memories

Brief remarks from Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, Spelman College President and Dr. Robert Michael Franklin, Morehouse College President

A class of ’98 DJ showdown that will showcase many of our talented classmates

A silent auction prior to the start of the event as an additional fundraiser for each college!

What is the dress attire for the Friday Gala and the party?

The attire for the Friday Gala is semi-formal. You do not have to rent a tuxedo or purchase an evening gown. You may wear jeans to the Saturday party but no athletic gear!

My spouse or friend did not graduate from Spelman or Morehouse. Should I bring him or her?

Everyone is welcome! Our reunion is a time to celebrate the past, the present, and the future. This is a great opportunity to share your college experience with your friend or spouse.

How is registration coming along and how many classmates will be attending?

We are pleased to have over one hundred classmates registered as of March 31st, but we are expecting even more classmates to be registered by the time we close registration on May 4th. There is a chance that we have not been able to reach out to every single classmate. If you know someone who is coming to Atlanta and has not officially registered (especially for the Friday Gala), please share the website address that person or contact a committee member who will be happy to reach out to him or her.

Why is this the first time I have heard anything about our reunion activities or about the class gift?

We have been working extremely hard to inform all of our classmates about the reunion activities and the participation needed to make our reunion a success for both colleges. Our class agents from both schools are constantly in touch with the respective alumni offices to obtain numbers and email addresses for our class members, but much of that information is outdated. If this is your first time receiving information about the reunion, we encourage you to reconnect with the alumni offices at your alma mater. Our colleges need us now more than ever. The percentage of alumni giving at our respective schools is well below the national average and we must become the class that changes the culture of giving starting with this reunion!

ONE CLASS, ONE DECADE, ONE LEGACY!!!!!!!!!!!

See you in Atlanta in May!
